Spending Freeze: Door Beautification

Yes, I'm holding strong on my spending freeze and finally getting around to projects that have been sitting up in my craft room just waiting to be completed. The latest victim item that I finally decided to use was a styrofoam wreath form that I bought about 5 months ago at Joann's. I needed something pretty to go on our mudroom door. It's the entrance to the house that we always use and pretty much anyone that comes to the house uses too. Except for the annoying people that go door to door looking for money. If someone knocks on the front door, I immediately know it's one of those guys and I try to hide.

I digress. I've seen a lot of yarn-wrapped wreaths on pinterest lately, so I figured I would give it a try. I had leftover cream ribbon from roughly 10 years ago when I crocheted a scarf. That's the one and only thing I ever crocheted. So here are my supplies:

I used duct tape to keep the wreath form together and tucked the yarn under the tape to keep it in place. It took about an hour to wrap the yarn completely around the wreath. It's completely mindless work that I did while watching a few episodes of World's Worst Tenants on spike. That show is completely addicting.

Obviously, a plain creme wreath is a little boring. I decided to get out my copper wire and bend the word "welcome." I attached this to the wreath and grabbed a cute piece of ribbon to hang the wreath. Here's the finished product.

I might jazz it up a bit with a few flowers, but I'm living with it for now to see if I really want to do that. Here it is actually hanging on the door.

I would love to replace the door, but that's obviously not high on the priority list right now. We are thinking about painting the doors though, but can't really agree on a color. My vote is for a deep plum, but Bill's not on board with that. Our shutters are all dark green, so I either need a coordinating color or the motivation to paint the shutters too. Our house is tan, so a lot of colors would match. We just can't decide and agree on one. Any suggestions?

I'll be adding this item to my etsy shop. I think it would make a great housewarming gift! I think it's pretty versatile and I can't wait to dress it up for different season, although I'm certainly not rushing summer!!
