What's in a Name?

Caroline is 7 weeks old today - I can't believe it! We're finally getting into a pretty good daytime routine, so that has allowed me to start doing a few projects around the house.

When I "finished" her nursery prior to her birth, I left a few things out because they included her name or initials. One of those projects was this big frame that I bought on my journey to Ikea.
Initially, I planned to use my Silhouette to make one of those giant monograms. Honestly, I played around with the cutting program and couldn't figure out how to do it. So I took the easy way out and decided to just cut out her name.

I looked through my fabric stash, which includes leftover fabric from the quilt that I (and my mom) made. You can see the quilt in this adorable picture of Caroline on her one month birthday.
I used the solid navy blue fabric to cut out her name. You're supposed to use some fabric interfacing when you want to cut fabric with the Silhouette. Since I planned on attaching the name cut out to another piece of fabric, I used some no-sew iron-on adhesive. It worked out well for me, even if its not the recommended way to go.

I was a bad blogger and didn't take any pictures of the process. Here's the finished product:
The coral fabric is also leftover from the quilt. Since I used the iron-on adhesive when I cut out "Caroline," I simply ironed that piece onto the coral fabric. I secured that fabric onto the gray background using navy washi tape. That stuff is so useful!
For about 20 minutes of work, this added a nice pop of color and interest to that dull corner.
Now that I've figured out how to cut fabric using the Silhouette, the project ideas are starting to really flow. I better stock up on that iron-on adhesive!

Who else is doing indoor projects to avoid the heat? The heat index hit 100 degrees here today and this humidity is ludicrous. I hope you're staying cool!

Thanks for reading,
Kathleen

  1. Would love to see more of what you do with your Silhouette. I purchased a Cricut back in May but haven't taken it out of the box yet.
    Love the nursery. :)
