Home Goods in Our House

A new Home Goods store just opened about a half hour from our house. We have one that's part of a whole Marshall's store closer, but I couldn't wait to get over to the new one to see what they had for me to waste money on buy to improve our home.

Before I left for the store, Bill had a run in with our under-the-sink cabinet. I was inspired by something I saw on pinterest last summer and hung a tension rod in the cabinet to hold our spray bottles of cleaning products. It's a great idea in theory, and I'm sure it works for a lot of people, but it was not a good solution for us. The cabinets probably aren't square, so the rod would fall down every time we took something off/put something on. Since I was going to Home Goods, Bill suggested I find another option for holding our cleaning products.

I found a tall wire basket. With handles. And it was pretty. I couldn't resist it at $12.99. I was so excited to bring it home and use in under the sink. Unfortunately, when I got it home I discovered that it was too tall and could not fit under the plumbing. Womp womp.

Luckily, we are fortunate enough to have a laundry room in our house. Its not huge, but its definitely sufficient. (It's on my list of rooms that I would like to paint/fix-up, but its certainly not anywhere close to the top... unless I get froggy one weekend.) There's also a shelf in there that had gotten a little out of hand. See Exhibit A:

Ok, so it does not look horrible. But it was not organized at all and we could definitely make better use of the space. I found a new home for the pails from my sister's bridal shower and then organized what was left.

Check out my newly organized laundry room shelf:

Now all of our cleaning products are in one place. I'm also happy that we can finally see the cute laundry room sign that I found at Hobby Lobby months ago. Isn't the wire basket pretty? I might go back and buy 18 more.

The best part is that the cabinet under the sink is really clean and only contains things that we use in the kitchen.

The previous owner left the small, green canvas organizer. And yes, I have enough sponges to last us for 5 years. That's not even all of them, there's more in the cabinet in the laundry room. Luckily, now that this cabinet is so clean and organized, I won't buy replacements for things we already have!

So that's what's going on around here today. I bought a few other things at Home Goods that I'll share another day. I also helped my sister finally put some things up on her walls over the weekend. It was fun and nice to help her out!

What have you been organizing lately? Anyone really get into spring cleaning this year? I'm waiting for the urge to strike on that one... I could be waiting a while!

Thanks for reading,
Kathleen
